The István Bocskai boxing memorial competition is now part of the World Boxing Tour series

Debrecen is now hosting the István Bocskai International Boxing Memorial Competition in Debrecen for the 66th time between February 8th and 12th, 2022.

Debrecen will host the István Bocskai István International Boxing Memorial Tournament for the 66th time between 8th and 12th February 2022.

Speaking at a press conference in Debrecen on 3 February 2022, Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, stressed that it is a remarkable event to be held for the 66th time, both internationally and globally. The cooperation between the Hungarian Boxing Association and the City of Debrecen is very good and goes back several decades, for which the participants deserve thanks. The city is again providing the venue, accommodation for the foreign athletes and judges, and the Dutch porcelain souvenirs and medals for the winners and runners-up.

Wines of Debrecen 2022

Organised by VisitDebrecen and the Debrecen Wine Journal, this year’s wine competition and judging were held on 4th February 2022 at Hotel Lycium with the participation of wine academics, winemakers, and sommeliers. The first round of wine testing was carried out last year by a panel of winemakers and wine experts from the Debrecen Wine Bar, judging 426 wines from 86 wineries in 15 wine regions.

The Bear Festival takes place on 5th February in Debrecen

This weekend at Debrecen Zoo will be the second annual Bear Festival, an event rooted in European folklore involving bears, and the specific date of February 2nd. According to folk tradition, if bears leave their caves that day, in clear weather and see their shadow, they will get scared and hurry back in – meaning winter will last a few more weeks or if, however, the weather is gloomy and they do not cast a shadow, they stay out, marking the end of winter.

Classical music in Debrecen in February

The concerts of the Kodály Philharmonic in Debrecen and the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen will feature not only local but also invited artists and orchestras, such as the violinist Katalin Kokas, the Savaria Baroque Orchestra and the National Philharmonic.

The second month of the year offers classical music lovers a more substantial and colourful classical music programme than ever before, with concerts by the Kodály Philharmonia Debrecen and the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Music featuring not only local artists but also invited artists and orchestras, including violinist Katalin Kokas, the Savaria Baroque Orchestra, and the National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Borsos József – The Great Forest Architect
