During the last week and weekend of Advent, it is worth taking a moment to relax, to turn inwards, to take time for ourselves, our family and friends besides shopping for Christmas presents. There’s plenty of festive activities across the city to fuel your spirits in the days before Christmas, from concerts to dance performances.

With the Téli Varázs a Vidámparkban event, offering unforgettable experiences over 5 days during the winter holidays, the Amusement Park is preparing to conclude its longest-ever season with great success. Following international trends, the winter operations after the Halloween grand event will welcome visitors looking for entertainment and relaxation during the festive season, on December 21–22 and 27–29, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

In the last week of Advent, there are intimate concerts to get you in the mood for the holidays, and even after Christmas, there are concerts to keep you in the mood. Unusual venues, popular hits, artists and bands guarantee a memorable experience. Charlie, the Alma Band, Zoltán Bereczki, the Cotton Club Singers and the Budapest Klezmer Band are among the acts to be seen in the upcoming weeks.

Christmas is slowly but surely approaching. During the third weekend of Advent, you can get in the mood for Christmas with intimate festive events – Christmas concerts, craft activities, traditional parades, etc. – all over the city.

The Debrecen Transport Company (DKV) awaits its passengers with a special Advent surprise on Silver Sunday. On December 15, 2024, the FVV “Bengal” tram and the Ikarus 280T nostalgia trolleybus will return to the city between 9:00 and 18:00, in addition to the light trams. An Ikarus 280 will light up the streets of the city in the afternoon, courtesy of the North Hungary Veteran Vehicles Association, and an Ikarus 250 light bus, courtesy of Beaver Tradition.

Christmas is slowly but surely approaching! Get in the mood for the holidays with a range of activities from Christmas concerts to craft workshops during the week of 8-15 December. In addition to the festive activities, DKV will be hosting an Advent Retro Day, the Valcer Dance School will be holding a festive gala, and there will also be craft and antiques fairs, ice disco, wellness programs and a community run. So, it’s worth browsing the programs to make sure you don’t miss out!

The ice rink opens in the last week of November in the town square! For several years now, the ice rink has been an unmissable part of the Advent season in Debrecen, where you can skate under the festive lights with the impressive Reformed Church in the background until 5 January.

Santa Claus will visit Debrecen again this year to greet the children in person! You can meet the big beard at several locations around the city from Thursday to Sunday!

The Christmas Market opened its doors and on the first Sunday of Advent the festive lights were lit up in Debrecen’s city center. There are a number of activities across the city to help you get in the festive mood in the weeks before Christmas. Here’s what’s on offer from 2 to 8 December.

More than 100 programs, 200 performers, nearly 500 contributors and 120 wooden houses at 6 locations in the city center: the Debrecen Advent program series opened its doors.

Debrecen Advent awaits its audience with more than a hundred uplifting productions and high-quality porters, as well as a gastronomic offer tailored to the holiday season from November 29 to December 23.

OTT-HOME, the International Meeting Point organizes a wine tasting event on 9 December at DG Italiano. Those who would like to discover the world of Hungarian wines and viniculture are welcome to join.

The 2024 EHF European Women’s Handball Championship will be a landmark event in women’s handball history, as for the first time ever 24 nations will participate in the tournament, making it the biggest ever women’s EURO! From 28 November to 15 December 2024, teams will compete in three countries, Austria, Hungary and Switzerland. Three countries with different cultures, united by a strong common love of handball. The logo of the tournament reflects this united spirit, with the colors of the three countries – red, white and green – coming together in a dynamic ball.
