There comes a night every year that puts animals in the spotlight. The 12^th annual Night at the Zoo is coming up on August 25 at Zoo Debrecen, this time offering visitors a taste of Asia’s great natural and cultural diversity with a unique blast of summer evening events and activities from 19:00 to 23:00.

A new exhibition opened in Déri Museum presenting the art of Transylvania between the two world wars.

The priceless exhibition will be on display until January. The artworks on display come from the private collection of a doctor from Oradea and his son.

One hundred illustrations inspired by the works of Mihály Csokonai Vitéz and Szilárd Borbély – this is what the Budapest Illustration Festival’s exhibition in Debrecen offers. The aim of the exhibition is to promote, through illustrations, a better understanding of the writers and poets associated with the city.

This year, 269 photographers entered the 41st Hungarian Press Photo Contest with 2,443 entries – including 1,881 individual images and 562 series.

Food lovers can be happy as September awaits them with two great food festivals in Debrecen. First, the hamburger festival Szaft ‘N Burger is held on 2 September 2023 on the shores of Lake Békás, then the gastro festival season continues with the Debreczeni ZAMAT Festival taking place from 15 to 17 September 2023 at the northern gate of Nagyerdei Stadium.

The Debrecen German Cultural Forum awaits jazz fans with another free concert on 29 August 2023 at the Nagyerdei Water Tower. This time an award-winning German jazz-pop band, Searching for Home will play live.

Classical music lovers can choose from a variety of concerts on the last days of August in Debrecen. On 26 August 2023 the Symphonic Orchestra of Hungarian Musicians from beyond the Borders will play in the Aula of the University of Debrecen. The Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition on which young conductors compete ends with an award ceremony and gala concert on 28 August featuring the 100-year-old Kodály Philharmonics.

Debrecen’s biggest festival, the one-week-long Debrecen Flower Carnival starts on August 14. Hungary’s biggest birthday party, Debrecen Flower Carnival kicks off on August 14! The festival is held every year around August 20 when Hungarians celebrate the foundation of the state and awaits visitors with a week-long fiesta full of colorful programs.

Time travel will be the event’s main theme: families are welcome to the Debrecen amusement park with a colourful programme and renewed experience elements.

Carnival week is approaching, and the Galiba Children’s Festival will be held again. The programmes and the attractions of the 65-year-old amusement park were announced by Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Diána Széles. 

More than 1,500 Hungarian and foreign carnival parade participants and about half a million live flowers will arrive at the Debrecen Flower Carnival, which has a 57-year tradition and will take place between the 14th and 20th of August 2023.

14 Hungarian artistic groups with nearly 1,500 dancers and eight foreign groups with 200 artists will be at this year’s Debrecen Flower Carnival. Seven of the eight international groups are coming to Debrecen for the first time. 

Wine and jazz meet in Debrecen, two of Hungary’s culture’s treasures. 67 wineries and more than 40 jazz bands will welcome you between the 3rd and 6th of  August 2023.

Unlimited adventures meet the magic of summer evenings at the Wristband Night, held on August 5, 2023 from 19:00 to 23:00.
