It’s big news for fans of the world-famous English musician, Sting that the 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist will play two concerts in Hungary next year as part of his My Songs tour. He will perform the most popular songs of his career in Budapest on 16th March 2022 and in Debrecen on 17th March 2022. The venue for the Debrecen concert is the recently renovated Főnix Arena.

Dwight Robson’s African-American Baptist pastor’s band, The Golden Voices of Gospel will give a concert in Debrecen. Due to the pandemic the concert is rescheduled and will be held on November 18th instead of January 13th, 2022. The venue is the same, the Reformed Great Church.

The Lovarda University Cultural and Conference Centre will once again be hosting a big party to celebrate the end of the year. The Valcer (Waltz) Dance Studio, the Happy & Band, and unlimited food and drinks will ensure lots of fun and good vibes.

From January 2022, those interested will be able to visit places at Debrecen International Airport as never before.

In addition to the popular ice skating rink, this year’s new feature of the main square Advent Fair, the outdoor rink next to the Nagyerdei Stadium is already under construction. Construction work on the 50-metre long, 20-metre wide, and 90-centimetre high ice rink, surrounded by a giant ice rink, has been underway for days. The Debrecen mayor’s office told Napló that they hope to open the ice rink to skating enthusiasts on 18th December.

Debrecen Airport has recently added one Western European and two Eastern European destinations to the range of flights available from Debrecen Airport. All three flights are operated by Wizz Air.

The Heart of Debrecen consists of hundreds of gingerbread cookies and embodies love and giving, which has been exhibited by the Debrecen City Municipality in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall during Advent since 2017.

On 15th December, Debrecen’s newest bakery, Panificio il Basilico Debrecen, opened its doors to great interest. The shop opened on the corner of Piac utca and Rózsa utca, in the Old Town Hall building, and is the brainchild of Szabolcs Szabadfi, better known as Szabi the Baker, who has mastered the craft over many years of working abroad.

The Christmas of the Animals is a long-standing and one of the most beautiful traditions of the Debrecen Zoo. This year it will be held on 27th December. At the festive event, visitors will be able to see a number of residents being fed and, together with the zoo staff, make the monkeys’ favourite treat, monkey dumplings.

During the last days of the year, the Tourinform Office is open during the Christmas holidays.

The Fourth Advent Candle Lighting takes place on 19th December in the Memorial Garden of the Reformed Great Church. The event is taking place just a few minutes walk from 100 caterers and Christmas fair vendors in Kossuth Square and the surroundings, (available until December 23rd) but there are some great Christmas-themed activities on the preceding Friday and Saturday.

The Valcer Dance Studio’s Christmas gala is once again this year – for the 30th year in a row – traditionally a celebration of the festive season. Their programme is dedicated to the lovers of ballroom dancing, standard and Latin American dances, and modern ballroom dancing.
