For most of the journey, visibility to either side of the main road to Hortobagy extends for many kilometres. It is both beautiful and haunting, but it is far from lifeless as we found when we visited the settlement.
Hortobagy is a vast plain, a flat grassland wilderness that to the untrained eye is empty. I found driving through the vast open landscape for the first time a little unsettling. A new exhibition curated by Sárai Vanda is to open in Modem on Saturday, (from 4pm on July 17th). Entitled #IFeelSeen, the exhibition has a focus on Social Media and the effect it has on our lives.

Today, the more than 100-year-old building functions as a community house that is not only worth a visit for its programs but for its architecture.
The Borsos villa in the middle of the old garden housing estate is a real architectural gem in Debrecen. József Borsos, the former chief architect of Debrecen, designed the building for himself and his family, the courtyard of which was once decorated with a swimming pool and a beautiful rose garden.

The country’s first rural zoo and only amusement park reopened to the public on May 1st, the anniversary of its founding, after nearly six months of closure, although for the time being, only those with a certificate of protection and minors can visit under forced restrictions.

On May 1st, one of the most famous buildings in Debrecen, the Great Reformed Church, reopened. Visitors to the country’s largest Protestant church can now get to know the history of the Church better through guided walks and exhibitions every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, free guided tours start at 11 o’clock .

Four more exhibitions will be opened in the city, this week, organized by the City of Debrecen and the Déri Museum. The shop windows commemorating Sándor Tar and János Térey, are connected to Trianon and are promoting reading, it can be seen at no.8 Piac Street from 4th to 31st May.

As the lockdown eases and sunshine brings warmth, inevitably we all want to feel human again, emerging from our homes like bears from caves after hibernation.
