On the third advent Sunday the iconic Reformed Great Church opens its doors in the evening so that we can admire the amazing festive lights of one of Europe’s most charming Christmas markets from the 40-meter-high panorama pavement of the church.

The last month of the year will see a succession of classical music concerts in Debrecen. For classical music lovers, there will be piano recitals, organ concerts, and large orchestra concerts, with early music and film scores alongside the great classics such as Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn.

This year, for the second time, the Ugly Sweater Run will be held in Debrecen, one of the aims of which is just to get active and enjoy sport together, while the other – more prominent – the aim is charity: to collect gifts for families in need. One of Debrecen Advent’s most popular community events takes place on Saturdays, 10th December.

The Reformed Great Church will host an extraordinary concert on Saturday, 10th December, from 7:00 p.m. The special feature of the event is that the church’s huge instrument will not be playing classical works written for the organ, but rather the well-known and famous melodies of popular films that are seldom played on the organ – and the Queen of Instruments can reproduce these works with incredible richness, power, and monumentality.

Travelmag listed 20 of the Most Charming Small Christmas Markets in Europe. The list includes the Advent fair of Debrecen being the only one selected from Hungary.

This winter, many of Europe’s most magnificent squares, town halls and boulevards will come alive with twinkling lights and festive cheer. Waiting for Santa, Christmas carols, ice skating disco, gastro shows… The program series of Debrecen Advent continues with various festive events taking place in the city center.

Hot Paprika Comedy and MODEM  are excited to bring English Stand-Up Comedy back to Debrecen! With the help of Erno Király, a special night of comedy takes places at MODEM on the 8th of December, Thursday.

One of the most popular attractions of the Debrecen Advent program series this year is the Ice Rink on Kossuth Square with the illuminated city center and the Christmas market in its background. Ice skating is not only a great way of active recreation but fun at the same time, especially on the skating disco events held every Saturday in December.

The Valcer Dance Studio’s Christmas gala show, this year again in the traditional spirit of holiday anticipation. Our show is dedicated to lovers of ballroom dances, standard and Latin-American dances, and modern ballroom dances.

On the 6th of December, a real Christmas atmosphere awaits those interested in visiting the Circus at the Kererdő Adventure Park in Debrecen.

DKV Zrt. will operate two Advent light trams again this year. On the first Sunday of Advent, 27th November, the trams will be lit at the same time as the city lights as part of the Advent candle-lighting ceremony on Kossuth Square.

The popular Hungarian tourism portal “szallas.hu” organized its annual “Hotel and Tourism Excellence of the Year Competition and Awards Gala“. Debrecen was voted City of the Year by the guests and the professional jury of the event.

The Hungarian Tourism Agency announced at the 2022 awards ceremony of Flowery Hungary 2022 that Debrecen had won the main prize in the category of big cities, the long-running competition was held for the 29th time, this time at the Buda Campus of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences on Friday,  18th November 2022. More than 50 prizes were awarded to the various category winners of Flowery Hungary 2022.
