Yes, there will be a flower carnival this year! This is the first question that comes to the minds of visitors to the Flower Carnival. In fact, the Debrecen Flower Carnival this year promises to be even greener and more flowery than ever before.

Today, the Debrecen Flower Carnival is much more than just a parade of spectacular floral compositions and international artistic ensembles – it is a week-long cavalcade of colourful events where visitors can find the entertainment that appeals to them most. This year it will take place from 15th to 21st August.

The country’s oldest narrow-gauge railway, the “Zsuzsi”, will celebrate its 140th birthday in 2022. On the last Sunday of May, the railway will supply a programme of activities for children to celebrate the anniversary. So it’s worth hopping on the train on 29 May, Children’s Day, and spending your free time in the lush green Hármashegyi forest, where the Zsuzsi offers great activities and a beautiful forest environment and fresh air.

On 28th and 29th May, children will be the main attraction at the country’s first rural zoo and only classic amusement park, where a colourful programme and unlimited use of amusement machines will delight both the young and old.

The traditionally two-day celebration provides families plenty of active recreational opportunities and unforgettable experiences, including the chance to make sliders with Mónika Erdélyi, take part in the Aqua Manó Party, jump into a bumper car, and test their skills on inflatable games. They will also enjoy the Green Circle’s natural ecological playhouse, the sensitising activities of the Árboc Public Benefit Association, a performance by the Piruett Dance Studio, Maja’s book recommendations, a storytelling corner, a children’s day food stroll, and a gift fair.

The good weather has already arrived and summer is coming, so the good news for water lovers is that the country’s most modern outdoor water park, Aquaticum Strand, will open its season this Friday, the 20th of May.

The rippling water surfaces, waterfalls, vegetation walls, and water veils connect the water park together and make it an ever-changing, shimmering centre of fun reflecting the forest trees, with 5,700 square metres of water, 15 pools, and almost 1 km of slides.

The MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art in Debrecen invites you to an exhibition of extraordinary importance. On 28th May 2022, a retrospective exhibition of László Lakner, one of the most important representatives of the Hungarian neo-avant-garde, will open. The exhibition, which will be open until 11th September and curated by art historian Dávid Fehér, will present the artist’s oeuvre spanning more than 40 years.

In 2022, the Marathonman Race Series will be held in Debrecen. Participants can choose from a total of five distances and the 10 km distance can also be selected in the relay. In addition to promoting sport and physical activity, the May race aims to showcase the Southern Industrial Park, where Krones Hungary was the first to move in a few years ago.

The Debrecen Drive was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to the coronavirus epidemic but there will definitely be a Drive this year. According to the organisers, the car jamboree will be held between 27th and 29th May. The event will feature new cars, sports cars from the biggest manufacturers, stunt shows, oldtimers, sports and touring bikes, trucks, a Leopard tank, concerts, and, last but not least, public meetings.

The village of Sarud is a favourite spot for lovers of water sports, exercise, and nature, located on the shores of Lake Tisza, just an hour’s drive from Debrecen. The waterfront provides lots of activities, experiences, and the silence of nature (on quiet days). It is also a stone’s throw from Hortobágy National Park. The village positions itself as the Active and Ecotourism Centre of Lake Tisza.
