On April 15, 1361, in Oradea, King Louis the Great granted judicial privileges to the citizens of Debrecen because they had served him and his father, Charles Robert well. Learn how.

On April 15, 1361, in Oradea, King Louis the Great granted judicial privileges to the citizens of Debrecen in acknowledgement that they had served him and his father, Charles Robert well. However, because the donation was issued in the form of a simple patent, it was only several months later that Dózsa Debreceni’s grandson István, the landowner of the settlement was awarded a letter/diploma of privilege, the date was June 14th, 1361. The authentic transcript, can be found in the MNL Hajdú-Bihar County Archives.

Sunset Walks @ Debrecen Zoo on Friday’s

In keeping Zoo tradition, this summer, brings unique summer night experiences for Zoo visitors, with the ever popular Evening Walks held each Friday till the end of August.
In addition, this weekend and next, as a little extra, on June 18th and 25th, the Friday sunset walks will also feature a seated concert by Kodály Philharmonic in the Giraffe Enclosure.

Festival for Roses

Roses deserve a whole weekend of celebration, so Debrecen Zoo and Botanical Garden dedicates a whole weekend for the Rose Festival taking place on June 12 and 13.

Roses (Rosa) are a genus of woody perennials within the family Rosaceae as well as the flowers they bear. Originally from Asia and Europe, they are now popular and widely cultivated all around the world, with a wide range of uses; they have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and hemostatic effects as an herb, their flowers can be made into drinks, ice cream and marmalades, and their essential oil can help combat respiratory illnesses, malaise and anxiety.

29th Hajdú-Bihar County Spring Exhibition Winners

The 29th Spring Exhibition in Debrecen, originally planned under the title “Fresh shoot”, was postponed to the autumn last year due to the epidemic situation, so it became the Hajdú-Bihar County Exhibition instead. The purpose remained the same:- to present the cutting edge of local contemporary art.

Season closing at the Vojtina Puppet Theater

The pandemic “forced” the Vojtina Puppet Theater to hold its programs in the online space, however, their traditional season-closing programs held at the beginning of the summer will still be held in real life, outdoors.

Every year since 2014, the City of Debrecen has been selecting the City of Debrecen Wine from among the best wines in the country, with the help of renowned winemakers and sommeliers. This year, too, they decided on a full range of wines, ie classic white and red, rosé, premium white and red, sparkling and dessert wines.
