The pandemic “forced” the Vojtina Puppet Theater to hold its programs in the online space, however, their traditional season-closing programs held at the beginning of the summer will still be held in real life, outdoors. On June 13th, the puppeteers are will be waiting for families with small children for a season-closing event in the usual place, in the Memorial Garden behind the Reformed Great Church.

Another Europe, an open photo exhibition, will open on Kossuth Square on June 11th. The aim of the exhibition is to present the diversity of Europe’s heritage.

As the holidays approach, the country’s only theme park, in the tradition of recent years, will continue the highly successful Ribbon (wristband) Weekend which will be held next on 12th and 13th June. As part of the promotion, guests wearing wristband tickets will be able to use all the various slot machines of the institution, unlimited all day – from 10:00 to 19:00, ie one hour more than last year.

The Kodály Philharmonic and the Kodály Choir will continue their Zoo concerts during the weekend ahead – on June 12-13th. At the children’s concert “Animal Music” we can hear a selection of the “animal” music of the greatest authors such as Vivaldi, Haydn and Leó Weiner. The Kodály Choir “Animal…!” and the hilarious show will feature a whole host of special animals.

In the centre of Debrecen, west of Kossuth Square and to the south from Hatvan Street to Széchenyi Street and beyond all the way down to Miklos Street, is what is referred to as the Jewish Quarter, an area where the Jewish settlement began and grew over the years.

Every year since 2014, the City of Debrecen has been selecting the City of Debrecen Wine from among the best wines in the country, with the help of renowned winemakers and sommeliers. This year, too, they decided on a full range of wines, ie classic white and red, rosé, premium white and red, sparkling and dessert wines. 

One of the best evening programs of the summer is at the Debrecen Zoo with their behind the scenes Night of Zoo tour. 

The Wizz Air Debrecen Airport Run will be held for the fourth time on 25th of September 2021, to be organized by Debrecen International Airport and the Sportcentrum (Sport Centre). 

Debrecen’s Kodály Philharmonic and Kodály Choir will have the opportunity to meet the music-loving audience of city once again on Friday, May 28th. The Season closing concert is a selection of works by Hungarian classics and contemporary composers. 

The Kodály Philharmonic and the Kodály Choir will delight children with outdoor concerts on Children’s Day (May 30th). 

The orchestra will give concerts by the the Giraffe House in the Zoo, while the choir will give concerts on the László Vitéz stage in the Amusement Park.  The  Choir productions start at 12.30 PM and 1.30 PM on 30th of May, while the  orchestral productions can be seen at 3.30 PM, 4.30 PM and 5.30 PM.

The last weekend of May ends with International Children’s Day on Sunday. This year UNICEF has themed this special day to “Unite to reverse the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children“. There are plenty of events for children and families throughout the city of Debrecen. Here you’ll find our choice from among the many options.

The Olympic qualifier for the 3×3 basketball discipline will be held between 4th to 6th June in Debrecen.  So far, in Debrecen, no Olympic qualification tournament has been held in any sport before, so this event to be held at the beginning of June will be a pioneer in several respects. 

After a long forced break, the personal distancing rules have now been relaxed a little and personal encounters can finally take place again. On the 6th June the fair atmosphere can return to our lives.
