The Aquaticum Sauna World has joined the “Sauna Weekend” program again this year: on the first weekend of October – 7-8 October – they will offer a special sauna program for their guests!

The “Sauna Festival” will take place in 30 spas nationwide, so that visitors can enjoy the benefits of sauna bathing at the same time.

Since 1931, World Animal Day has been celebrated every year on 4 October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and is a red-letter event on every animal lover’s calendar to raise awareness of the importance of the welfare and protection of all animals, both wild and in human care.

It has been a long-standing tradition for Zoo Debrecen to bring the many wonders of the living world closer to children’s groups and families with guided tours and activities on this special day. This year, in view of the Animal Week and the Big Forest Week, it is offering thematic programs for two weeks between 2 and 15 October.

Autumn renewal? When it comes to design, a little makeover is definitely not out of the question, right? It is in the spirit of this renewal that the artisans and design masters of Debrecen are entering the autumn season, now called Only Design Fair, with a new look and a new venue, but with the same stylish interior and exhibitors we are used to.

A new visitor route has been added to the tourist offer of the Reformed Church of Debrecen. The route was presented on World Tourism Day on 27 September, and tickets for the guided tour will be available from 1 October.

On 13 October (Friday) at 18:00, the choir of our sister church in South Korea will give a concert at the Reformed Great Church.

The Bényi Gallery, located in the Kölcsey Centre, opened the autumn season with a joint exhibition of two painters – Anikó Éberling and Zsuzsa Szász – entitled Time Becomes Matter.

Both artists are characterized by a versatile, bold, creative use of materials and the reuse and reinterpretation of discarded objects. This is what gave rise to the idea of a joint exhibition, although the two artists have very different styles of representation – one abstract, the other concrete – the curator says they respond to the world around them with a very similar sensitivity.

Classical music lovers can choose from a variety of concerts in October. Works of such famous composers as Brahms, Schubert, Bartók can be heard performed by the Kodály Philharmonics that celebrates its 100^th anniversary in 2023 and by the professors and guest performers of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen.

In autumn, nature shows its glorious face! Maybe there’s no other season when nature is so colorful, so it’s worth taking advantage of the sunny fall days by spending as much time outdoors as possible. You don’t have to sit at home in gloomy, rainy weather either, as cultural institutions are waiting for us with exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances.

The Debrecen Folk Crafts Festival is organized for the 13th time in 2023 offering an opportunity to meet traditional Hungarian craftsmen and gain an insight into their work. This year gingerbread masters join the outdoor event that is held on 22-23 September 2023 on Dósa nádor square. Visitors can meet 24 craftsmen representing 14 different crafts.

World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on 27 September, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value. On this special day, Debrecen’s tourism marketing agency, VisitDebrecen offers free guided tours both in Hungarian and English for those who would like to explore the hidden gems of Debrecen’s historic city center.
