The Bényi Gallery, located in the Kölcsey Centre, opened the autumn season with a joint exhibition of two painters – Anikó Éberling and Zsuzsa Szász – entitled Time Becomes Matter.

Both artists are characterized by a versatile, bold, creative use of materials and the reuse and reinterpretation of discarded objects. This is what gave rise to the idea of a joint exhibition, although the two artists have very different styles of representation – one abstract, the other concrete – the curator says they respond to the world around them with a very similar sensitivity.

Classical music lovers can choose from a variety of concerts in October. Works of such famous composers as Brahms, Schubert, Bartók can be heard performed by the Kodály Philharmonics that celebrates its 100^th anniversary in 2023 and by the professors and guest performers of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen.

The Debrecen Folk Crafts Festival is organized for the 13th time in 2023 offering an opportunity to meet traditional Hungarian craftsmen and gain an insight into their work. This year gingerbread masters join the outdoor event that is held on 22-23 September 2023 on Dósa nádor square. Visitors can meet 24 craftsmen representing 14 different crafts.

World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on 27 September, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value. On this special day, Debrecen’s tourism marketing agency, VisitDebrecen offers free guided tours both in Hungarian and English for those who would like to explore the hidden gems of Debrecen’s historic city center.

Debrecen’s newest mural has been completed and will now decorate the courtyard of the Rickl House at 39 Piac Street. The artwork was unveiled by Deputy Mayor of Debrecen István Puskás Puskás, Director of the Déri Museum  János Angi, and historian Katalin Váradi on the 12th of September 2023.

Save the date, because the 6th Wizz Air Debrecen Airport Run is to be held on 23 September 2023. Hosted by Debrecen International Airport, the event will actually take place at the runway of the airport.

On the 250^th anniversary of the birth of Debrecen-born poet Mihály Csokonai Vitéz, the theater bearing his name has reopened after a three-year long renovation. The Csokonai Theater – built between 1861 and ’65 according to the plans of architect Antal Szkalnitzky – opened again with a gala show on 17 September 2023.

Debrecen’s gastro festival season continues with the Debreczeni ZAMAT Festival taking place from 15 to 17 September 2023 at the northern gate of Nagyerdei Stadium. As in previous years, the event features star performers, culinary experiences, and of course a great variety of dishes and drinks.

On 18th of September, Debrecen’s first business hotel, Hotel Lycium**** Debrecen, will reopen,
welcoming guests, renewed and refreshed.

During the Ars Sacra Festival, the doors of the Reformed Great Church will be opened to the public on 16th of September at 7 p.m., with organ concerts and a visit to the church.

Observed on September 16 this year, International Red Panda Day aims to connect the public with this unique and highly threatened species and raise awareness of the importance of conservation efforts.
