Since 1931, World Animal Day has been celebrated every year on 4 October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and is a red-letter event on every animal lover’s calendar to raise awareness of the importance of the welfare and protection of all animals, both wild and in human care.
It has been a long-standing tradition for Zoo Debrecen to bring the many wonders of the living world closer to children’s groups and families with guided tours and activities on this special day. This year, in view of the Animal Week and the Big Forest Week, it is offering thematic programs for two weeks between 2 and 15 October.

During the Covid epidemic, restrictions typically led to a surge in domestic tourism, but after the restrictions were lifted, international tourism started to recover. This year, the impetus is being given by inbound tourism rather than domestic tourism, and this European trend is also characteristic of tourism in Hungary. This year, Hungarians have chosen foreign destinations instead of domestic ones, with many spending their main holidays in neighboring countries and seaside resorts.

The Bényi Gallery, located in the Kölcsey Centre, opened the autumn season with a joint exhibition of two painters – Anikó Éberling and Zsuzsa Szász – entitled Time Becomes Matter.
Both artists are characterized by a versatile, bold, creative use of materials and the reuse and reinterpretation of discarded objects. This is what gave rise to the idea of a joint exhibition, although the two artists have very different styles of representation – one abstract, the other concrete – the curator says they respond to the world around them with a very similar sensitivity.
