The Debrecen Zoo and Amusement Park celebrates Earth Day and the start of the season with a new fleet of green vehicles and the arrival of new Zoo residents. On the occasion of the famous day, a press conference was held Thursday, at which Mayor László Papp and Sándor Nagy, director of the Nagyerdei Cultural Park, reported on the innovations taking place in the Zoo and elsewhere.

The Debrecen Tourism Agency Public Benefit Nonprofit Ltd. (Debrecen Turisztikai Ügynökség Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft) won a HUF 25,000,000 non-refundable grant in the tender for the renovation of Tourinform offices and information points of the Hungarian Tourism Agency Ltd.

The most popular playground in Debrecen, the Ötholdas Pagony in Nagyerdő, will be modernized using nearly one and a half billion forints and renamed “Blue Island”.

The Pagony is planned to be renamed the Sziget-blue playground, drawn from Magda Szabó’s fairy tale: it will be transformed into a theme park incorporating the elements of Magda Szabó’s 1959 fairy tale novel Sziget-kék. It tells the story of Valentin, a little boy, sets out on a mission to rescue his accident-stricken mother, he goes to a special island to find the island-blue elixir that saves his mother.

The “My Mom Said” team from Encs announced is taking orders online on the 9th April on their Facebook page, and we took a peak inside and found a very comfortable, looking interior prior to opening to the public for walk-in orders at no. 2 Csapó Street.

This year Earth Week will be held at the Agora between 21st-25th April. This year, too, the preservation of wildlife diversity will be the central theme of Earth Day.

Aquaticum Debrecen Waterpark Considered One of the Best Sustainable Architectural Works in the World

Aquaticum Mediterranean Adventure Bath in Debrecen’s Great Forest opened its doors in 2003 as the first indoor adventure bath in Hungary. For the past 18 years, the bath has operated successfully, undergoing necessary maintenance and minor improvements when needed, and in 2016, a baby-mama rest area was set up. However the latest investment plans will enable a much greater development. 

In recent months, we have become accustomed to store front exhibitions, enclosed behind glass from their traditional venues at museums and galleries which have been closed. We like the arts to get closer to us in this way, so we are happy to announce new showcases, done partly in combination with the City Day of Debrecen on April 11th, which again smuggle a little visual experience into the everyday life of those who visit.

In the spring, both the local population and visitors alike enjoy taking walking excursions in the vicinity of Debrecen, and so it is always a pleasure if hikers are provided with suitable conditions and facilities.

The Déri Museum has launched a new exhibition entitled Border Fate and is about the wide ranging effects that the Treaty of Trianon had on the population of Hungary. It builds upon the museums prior virtual exhibition, done for the centenary anniversary of the Treaty of Trianon in 2020.  In addition to well-known consequences of the treaty, the exhibition draws attention to lesser-known or partially forgotten events.

In 2019, the Hungarian Tourism Agency launched “Kajla,” a summer campaign designed to encourage family trips to as many places in Hungary as possible. The campaign follows a dog called “Kajla,” around discovering the wonders of Hungary. The campaign has been so successful, it has been expanded with many new products and games last year including “Kajla körök” that promoted forest playgrounds, forest railways and parks. Now, Kajla has returned with a new edition to promote attractions overseas, on the prior territory of Greater Hungary as well including a wide range of cities from the historical Hungary. 

In recent times restaurants’ have worked hard to supply an out-of-restaurant experience with home delivery. But as the lockdown eases and sunshine brings warmth, inevitably we all want to feel human again, emerging from our homes like bears from caves after hibernation.

Between 5th-12th April, International Dark Sky Week events are being organized around the world to raise awareness of the harmful effects of light pollution on wildlife and the landscape, and to showcase the values ​​of the starry sky as our common cultural heritage.
