Flower Floats Exhibition

Flower floats are an indispensable part of the Debrecen Flower Carnival. While we can’t see the spectacular huge rolling compositions made using hundreds of thousands of dry and live flowers marching this year, but we can admire them up close for three days.

In the Year of National Togetherness, the flower floats are putting the focus on Hungarian researchers, scientists, inventors, artists, and historical figures who have created lasting things in their own fields of focus and therefore made the world a better place through their work and the wonders they have created, while at the same time they have contributed to the reputation of their homeland.

Fairy Garden – Town Hall Music Evenings

The courtyard of the Old Town Hall will open its doors to visitors once again this year. From August 15th, music concerts await those interested, every night, which will be complemented by light painting in the inner courtyard from August 20th.

New Look Dósa Nádor Square Re-Opened

As part of the Debrecen 2030 program, a new pedestrian zone was inaugurated in the city center on 15th August.

As part of the Debrecen 2030 program, a new pedestrian zone was inaugurated in the city center on 15th August. The development was completed in seven months as planned, within the framework timetable. Approximately an 11 thousand square metre surface area was renewed in Dósa nádor tér as well as a section of Csapó utca. Thereby greatly increasing the green area to 970 square meters.

At the inaugurated event, Mayor László Papp said it was worth remodeling, as there were previously too many cars using the area, aged asphalt, and very little in the way of green space in this area. He added that the goal was to rethink the downtown pedestrian zone. The mayor emphasized that the people of Debrecen will have a modern, up-to-date downtown space, and this renovated location will simultaneously embody novelty, creativity, and tradition.

Flower Festival – A Detailed Guide

The finalized program of the Flower Festival week in all its glory. There will be a flower cart exhibition, dancing flash mobs, music, light painting, a flower and craft exhibition, arts promenade, sightseeing walks, and much more.

Debrecen is preparing for the Flower Carnival with colorful programs this year.

Night Ride II – Cyclists will bring light to Debrecen

Night Ride II – Debrecen is only a few days away and the city will be covered in light as cyclists make their way through the city. The event was a great success last year and in 2019. This year, the cycling parade is being organized for Flower Carnival week again.

Night Ride II – Debrecen is only a few days away and the city will be covered in light as cyclists make their way through the city. The event was a great success last year and in 2019. This year,  the cycling parade is being organized for Flower Carnival week again.

The aim of the II. Night Ride Debrecen event is to activate the cycling community in Debrecen, to promote cycling as an alternative form of transport. It also aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, and sport activity, and raise awareness of Debrecen as a cycle-friendly city.

Galiba Children’s Festival

The Galiba Children’s Festival has become the favorite annual programs in Debrecen for families. The festival awaits those interested in the Great Forest Cultural Park (Nagyerdei Kultúrpark), and is this year celebrating its 60th birthday from 16th August.

“There is no more beautiful animal than a goose, he does not need a footpath,” sings Galiba, the goose in György Schwajda’s Ludas Matyi transcript. It was in this playful form that one of the “youth education” programs of the Debrecen Flower Carnival was born, the aim of which is to address as many young people as possible with the largest art event in the city.

Campus 8 – Concerts @ Football Stadium, 19th – 22nd August

Eight key concerts will take place at the Nagyerdei Stadium over four evenings between 19th and 22nd August 2020.

The Campus Festival 2020 was canceled due to the Coronovirus, but the organizers came up with an alternative large scale event series to be held towards the end of the summer. The event named “Campus Eleven” was planned to be held over 11 nights with popular artists.

However, the latest government rules have also hit this alternative plan and the Campus Eleven event series plan had to be reformulated once again.

Now, eight key concerts will take place at the Nagyerdei Stadium over four evenings between 19th and 22nd August.

The Farmer Expo will be held in Debrecen

In recent years the Farmer Expo has grown, initially, this year it was planned to house 300 exhibitors and to include 17,000 square meters of fair space located on the Böszörményi út Campus of the University of Debrecen.

In recent years the Farmer Expo has grown, initially, this year it was planned to house 300 exhibitors and to include 17,000 square meters of fair space located on the Böszörményi út Campus of the University of Debrecen.

For epidemiological reasons, the organizers did not invite exhibitors from across the border, due to concerns over the official protocol at the border due to the pandemic.

This year it is expected that there will be more than 500 people in the fairgrounds at any given time, but the visitors will be spread over about a total of 50,000 square meters.

Modem Celebrating 15th Anniversery – Exhibition

Modem, the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art in Debrecen has been closed for more than a quarter of a year due to COVID-19. On June 19th it reopened.

Modem, the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art in Debrecen has been closed for more than a quarter of a year due to COVID-19. During this time the institution created face masks, which was distributed to employees of health care institutions, nursing homes, the local government, the civil guard, and rural clinics.

With the strictest health standards in mind, it reopened its doors to the public on June 19th.

Meteor swarms can appear in the night sky for several weeks from the end of July until the end of August and are a sight to behold. The most suitable places for observing meteors and stars are in locations that are “sky parks” of which there are several in Hungary. These locations are free from obstacles and light pollution.

In recent years, as a result of cultural collaborations, the Night of Lights and the Night of the Classics have become the two popular events of the Flower Carnival in Debrecen. The Nights of Lights and the Night of the Classics have been an integral part of the carnival week for years and will continue to be so this year.

Evening Walks at Debrecen Zoo Will Continue in August

One of the best summer evening programs is the evening walk at the Debrecen Zoo. The evening was traditionally held on the last Friday in August. Now, weekly evening walks will continue as a prelude to the upcoming Night at the Zoo at the end of August (28th August).

Participants of the Night Walk program can discover the thousands of secrets of the ZOO and gain a glimpse into the unknown, evening life of the animals. With the help of caregivers, they can get to know the most special animals, among other things.
