This time, Richard Johnson, the Co-Founder of Debrecen Today, the English language city newspaper, answered our questions.

This is a difficult year this year, especially now that theaters, cinemas, museums and restaurants are still closed, events are lagging behind and curfews are making it difficult for us to move around. We look forward to moving out of home again soon and traveling for a long domestic weekend or a smaller foreign vacation. Until then, all we have to do is tour at home and explore our own city, Debrecen, with a slightly different eye.

Velodrome Construction Declared Priority for the National Economy

The government’s declaration emphasizes the importance of the investment in Debrecen.

The government has declared the administrative authority matters related to the velodrome investment in Debrecen to be a matter of special importance.  The Hungarian Cycling Association (MKSZ) announced that the decision is a recognition of the achievements of the Hungarian cycling sport in the past year, the athletes and coaches.

Campus Festival and the Flower Carnival might Still be held in summer

On the budgetary agenda this year is cultural event support in the wake of Covid19.

In addition to economic development, culture is also an important chapter of Debrecen’s 2021 draft budget. István Puskás, Deputy Mayor for Culture of Debrecen said, he also spoke about the main figures of the budget in this area, the ongoing infrastructural developments and the priorities for 2021 in Esti Közelkép a local television program.

3×3 Basketball Olympic Qualifying Round to be Held in Debrecen

From 4th-6th June, Hungary will host an Olympic qualifying tournament in the 3 × 3 basketball field. The organizing committee held an online press conference about the event.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis announced that the qualifier will be held in Debrecen, where the last two rounds will be hosted.
