Themed family days in the spirit of autumn: wonderful music, dancing, handicraft classes, craft fair, and many other surprises await in the renewed Dósa palatine square on Saturdays!

From November 6th to the 30th November between the hours of 09:00 – 18:00, the winning entries to the 38th Hungarian Press Photo competition will be available to view at the Kölcsey Center, in the Circular Corridor.

267 photographers submitted 2,488 entries to the 38th Hungarian Press Photo Competition, the total number of images received was 6,079.

On Sunday 8^th November will be the European Arthouse Cinema Day, once again, held for the 5^th time.  The event is held across the world in hundreds of arthouse cinemas on the same day.  This is an initiative of the International Association of Art Cinemas (CICAE) and Europa Cinemas, the international event aims to raise awareness of the diversity of European cinema and the importance of art cinema as a cultural and community space.

On St. George’s Day just passed, during the Herding and Crane Festival in Hortobágy, an inauguration ceremony took place for a new nature trail.

The ceremony included an interesting environmental lecture and playhouse for the children to promote the new trail.  The new trail was created as part of an interregional development program.

The permanent exhibitions of the Déri Museum have been enriched with new numismatic pieces.

Visitors can explore previously unseen pieces from the museum’s numismatic collection as they walk through the gallery.

The artists of the exhibition “Debrecen / art” hold small workshops every Friday at 4 pm in Modem. 

We are looking forward to a super November, at least as far as the programs on offer in Debrecen is concerned! Thematic film days, jazz and classical music concerts, theater performances, dance productions, exhibitions, and family programs alternate throughout the month within the framework of the Debrecen Autumn Festival.

Halloween has become an increasingly popular holiday in Hungary in recent years, but few people know its origin. Therefore, on Saturday, families can not only have a great time visiting the Dósa palatine square but also become acquainted with the Celtic traditions of the holiday.

Learn about the ancient Celtic divination techniques and the story of Fukar Jack. The demons of the Flaming Snails help to ward off the darkness, and you can also walk a Celtic circle dance in a mask made by ourselves!

Halloween is an increasingly popular holiday in Hungary. On October 31st, there will be a number of thematic programs for Halloween lovers in Debrecen. Learn about the origins and traditions of the holiday, from pumpkin lanterns to costumes, including family programs, night bathing, amusement park entertainment, and forest adventures.

In addition to the animal feeding, those interested can get acquainted with gibbons and ring-tailed lemurs, but the traditional Halloween party of the amusement park will not be missed either.

“Gibbon Day” will be celebrated worldwide on 24th October. Zoo visitors can enjoy the festive feast of the ZOO white-handed gibbons at 11 AM followed by an introduction about the life of the gibbons by zookeepers. 

The charming forest of Hármashegyalja, 17 km from the city is a great place to spend the long weekend. The forest is also the end stop of Zsuzsi, Hungary’s oldest narrow-gauge railway where those interested can take part in diverse programs on the long weekend (23 – 25 October). 

The traditional St. George’s Day Herd and Crane Festival will be held on 24th October. The crane is a symbol of the Hortobágy National Park, and the dance of the cranes is the most attractive natural event of autumn in Hortobágy.
